I get a call from a clearly handsome man from Mexico City, “I’m proposing in a few days to the most wonderful woman. I need your help.” Love stories are the sweetest and theirs is no exception. He did everything to make sure she knew how much he cared. Exhibits A, B, C and D below. [The ring was too big to fit on this screen].

He orchestrated not one, but two rainbows within reach at The Tides South Beach Hotel Penthouse Rooftop.

She was lured onto the rooftop by the most perfect rendition of their special song, “As Time Goes By,” performed by esteemed fellows from the New World Symphony.

Stunning red nosegay bouquets from Karla Conceptual Events lined a pathway to the petal filled area where he would propose.

That would have been more than enough for many, but no, one last surprise. He transformed part of the Penthouse into a candlelit private dining room and the food was oh. so. good. (it is part of my job to sample everything).

She said yes and I smiled.

Aretha and Willie are engaged.

Lebron and Savannah are engaged.

Justin and Jessica are engaged.

And I’ve got a special client that is proposing tonight.

I am happy. I am in a musical mood.

Queen Aretha found her “Do Right Man.” It’s my favorite Aretha song (and my girls too).

The wedding proposal that I am planning soon is on a rooftop and my theme song for this job is The Beatle’s “Don’t Let Me Down.” The last time The Beatles performed together in public was on a rooftop and it was this beautiful song. My client better hope I don’t jump in after the proposal to sing it from the top of my lungs.

Must See Father Daughter Dance

This is a super cute father and daughter dance. It reminds me of how happy my father was during our special moment. At one point my dad did some sort of impromptu dance split. We danced to the song I was named after, Nathalie by Gilbert Bécaud, one of his favorites. I miss him so much and am grateful for that moment. How sweet it will be when Brian dances with our girls in many many many many years from now. BUT – they better not pull any stunts like the one below. Brian will enter from stage left at 8:31 p.m. to join our daughter who will be standing in the right quadrant, left foot in front of right, hands slightly on hips. At 8:31.5 he will twirl her to the center, where the song I approve will commence. He will do the same when the other gets married. Just kidding – well, maybe not.

A Very Sweet Love Song – Fly Love

How is this the first time I am hearing this love song? Sweetness. Just pure sweetness. It’s from the movie Rio and it is written by Carlinhos Brown. Based on my small collection of Brazilian music, it is very clear that every song Brown touches is magic. The first version is in English sung by Jamie Foxx. The second version is in Portuguese sung by Brown (“Ararinha”). My starry eyes keep toggling between both. Thanks to a special bride for putting me on to this. Oh so lovely. [** lips pursed trying to whistle**]

There is no better way to describe how I feel about September 11, 2001, than the words spoken through the music of Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings. To me, it speaks of sadness, solace and reconciliation. May our fallen angels rest in eternal peace. I did not know you Manny Del Valle Jr., but our dear friend Christian keeps your memory alive everyday. You are forever a hero. Thank you.

Beyonce the bride is Beyonce the beautiful. Have you seen her latest video, “The Best Thing I Never Had?” Here is the run down: A) She makes lace lingerie look very classy (remember the rule, “if you are going to show that ass, make sure it’s with class”); B) She wears a ferosh bridal gown from Baracci Beverly Hills; C) She slips into a fun Vera Wang number for the reception; D) Natural looking make-up is always the way to go; E) Hair up for the ceremony and hair down for the reception is cool; and lastly F) You can close your eyes to the things you do not want to see, but you cannot close your heart to the things you do not want to feel. Love yourself enough to let the fool go and you will soon learn he is “the best thing you never had.”

Inspired by Two Indian Songs

I love being introduced to new music. Hashi and Jaja’s Hindu wedding was no exception. Two songs particularly struck a chord with me, even though I was not 100% sure what was being said. The first was the song that JaJa walked down the aisle to, Maine Yeh Kab Socha Tha. It’s a beautiful composition that is obviously all about love:

The next song was one that got all of Hashi’s mother’s friends on the dance floor in less than one second, Aap Jaisa Koiby by Nazia Hassan. It sort of felt like I knew the song already and I couldn’t help but try to replicate all of their fancy dance moves:
