I know I say it all the time, but it is so true. I am blessed. Luxe Fête’s Dulce Photo Shoot is a cover feature today on Style Me Pretty! Farah and I worked with such an incredibly talented group of vendors to pull this off: Ozzy Garcia Photography, Citrine by the Stones, Lindsey Luxa of Dragonfly Custom Design, Chic Parisien, Ring Finger Studio, Dominique’s Couture Cakes, Drapeworks, Judith Prince and Keisha Crawford. Thank you all so much. And I could not have said it any better than Jeanette, who authors The Wedding Nest, “[Ozzy] made what was already beautiful sing.” You are incredible man.

I’m not really a lady who is ever at a loss for words. Then one day I ran into my girlfriend Janet and saw this gold lusciousness around her neck. That thing stopped me mid-sentence. Her jewels by Citrine by the Stones was stunning. Immediately I knew I would be styling a wedding based on the necklace. Farah saw a picture of the beauty and she agreed as well. Our next step was to meet with the incredible photographer Ozzy Garcia. And just like that it was on: A Luxe Fête + Ozzy Garcia “Dulce Wedding.”

Dulce is Spanish for sweet. So the first question we had to ask ourselves was what would be a sweet Luxe Fête wedding? That was an easy one. We wanted to design something with the perfect blend of romance, luxury and nature (on a beach of course – you can never take the island out of a girl). That is dulce. We were so lucky other amazing vendors worked with us to pull this together. A special thanks to Chic Parisien, Dominique’s Couture Cakes, Ring Finger Studio, Judith Prince, Citrine by the Stones, Keisha Crawford, Dragonfly Custom Design and Drapeworks. I’m such a sucker for all things beautiful and can’t wait to share the details over the next few days. So. Friggin. Hot.

P.S. I lie. There is another time I was rendered speechless. When Ozzy Garcia sent me these pictures, I absolutely had no words. I was so stricken by how beautifully he captured what we created. There is such raw emotion in his work. My man you are a true artist and I love your spirit and energy! Thank you.

I chuckled when I read Julie Rothenberg’s recent article in Real Simple Magazine. She was asked: “Am I obligated to attend every single event during my friend’s jam-packed wedding weekend?” In short, her answer was: “hell no.” So let’s flip it to our perspective: Should you plan a jam-packed wedding weekend for your guests? Same answer my friends. You don’t want your guests to begrudgingly feel like they have to spend every minute of their mini-vacation with you and your lovely. Yes they are there to celebrate your union, but that is why there is the rehearsal dinner and wedding. Your guests will appreciate you so much more if you just kindly give them suggestions. A perfect way to offer suggestions is to give your guests a handmade wedding map. On the back of the map why not detail areas of interest or deals you were able to secure in the event they are interested? Here is a really beautiful and fun map for a destination wedding in New Orleans from the Etsy shop of DesignsByRobynLove. Oh how I love Café du Monde! If I got this map, I’d draw big red heart around it.

Meet Lindsey Luxa of Dragonfly Custom Design

I’m so excited to introduce the creative artist behind the beautiful Alice in Wonderland Invitation Suite. Lindsey Luxa of Dragonfly Custom Design is just fabulous and totally puts her heart into every project as is evident from these pictures. It’s no wonder she is one of the most sought after and best out there. The former entomologist (cute . . . the name of her company starts with Dragonfly) luckily for us found her way to creating couture invitations. I love couture. Smile. So I love Linz.

What inspired you when creating the invitation suite for Luxe Fête’s Alice in Wonderland Photo Shoot?

I was inspired by the stills from the movie, specifically those featuring the coloration of the Mad Hatter and the Tea Party. I loved the vegetation as well and tried to incorporate natural and organic looking elements into the entire suite (twine, natural fiber paper). The use of clocks, tea party elements and whimsical but elegant fonts really made the entire set cohesive.

What’s the big deal about having super nice invitations?

For a truly outstanding and posh event, an outstanding and unique invitation is paramount. Your invitation sets the stage for the entire event and will be your guest’s first impression. It speaks to your taste, style and what is to come. What’s more, the invitation is the one thing your guests will have to remember the event by. Why not make sure it counts! Many brides choose to do over-the-top invitations as gifts as opposed to wedding favors.

What are some of the trends you are seeing in the invitation world?

I am finding that brides are focusing more on invitations that make a statement. Even in a tough economy, it is still one of the most important days in one’s lifetime. Splurging on a few key things to make the day even more memorable for guests is definitely a trend. Silks are huge right now, along with combining them with letterpress and/or unique and tactile papers. Invitations are becoming more of an experience for the guests. It is important to get them truly curious and excited about the event. I LOVE a theme, be it a color scheme, monogram or true “theme” (i.e. Alice in Wonderland). It really inspires me and my creativity.

Wonderland. The Invitation

How special do you feel when you lay hands on a “fancy looking” invitation? Exactly. It matters. And what does the amazing Alice in Wonderland invitation suite by couture designer Lindsey Luxa of Dragonfly Custom Design say? It’s screams, “YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS OH SO LUXE WEDDING!” I can spend hours pouring over the fine details and styling elements she created for this photo shoot. I love, love, love the bold use of the intense purple and green. Just so regal. And anyone who knows me, knows I am a sucker for natural and organic materials — such a grounding element. But what I think is most genius, however, is how Lindsey played with the Alice in Wonderland theme in such a grown-up and sophisticated manner:

The invitation was nestled in a silk box constructed of deep purple and iridescent green silks. The body of the invitation was set on a deep purple silk pad with a layer of iridescent green silk, natural fiber paper and dark purple paper. Just love the exterior wrapping in a wide green satin ribbon with twine.

The antique pewter key tied with purple ribbon is so clutch!

The save the date language, “Don’t be Late for a Very Important Date” helped establish the overall whimsical Alice in Wonderland theme.

Escort cards were printed on iridescent paper, backed in bright purple stock and tied to antique spoons using twine. And instead of a traditional table number, Lindsey incorporated an antique pendulum clock pointing to a corresponding hour, in this case 2:00 p.m.. What is really cute is how the escort cards led the guests to Table No. 2 using a clock face.

Lindsey made these darling signs using hand white-washed wood that was laser etched with Victorian graphics. Very Lewis Carroll, wouldn’t you agree?

The menus directly mimicked the invitation. A vintage “Menu” illustration, as well as tea pots and cups tied seamlessly to the theme.

The delicious favors were hand-made Jordan almond flowers with purple centers and green stems and leaves. They were finished with thoughtful small tags that said “Thank You.”

Isn’t it spectacular how she put it all together!! So of course you know we will be sitting down and chatting with ever so talented Ms. Lindsey later on this week. I must pick her brain on the latest trends in wedding invitations. Be sure to join us. You are cordially invited . . .
