A couple of weeks ago I told you about my friend and sommelier extraordinaire, Dinkinish O’Connor. I also told you how little I know about the luxe drink of all drinks: wine. Dinky’s approach to getting gals like me to warm up to wine is awesome. What she calls her “Rock Star Wine Tastings,” basically involves taking a few wines, naming them after certain artists and seeing what diva your wine personality is. For me, it was deciding whether I was Billie Holiday, Nina Simone or Sade. Although each of these foxy ladies would suit me just fine, I found my inner star by learning to pick apart each wine’s color, aroma and flavor. Dinky said a good wine is like a good kiss. It lingers in your mouth and you think about it all night. Who was I? A super sexy Sauternes, a very sweet and smooth French wine that is supple enough to sip just on its own. Someday, I’ll kick back with the zenith of these Sauternes, Chateau d’Yquem, in a cute romper listening to my girl, Sade. Bye Bye Kool-Aid, this smooth operator has got to go.

P.S. Congrats Dinky on your great interview and write up on Grammy award-winning jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson in Wine Spectator. New Moon Daughter was on CONSTANT replay back in the day. Um, can you set up a girls lunch with the three of us? I like french wines too.
